    Films on DSIR’s Role in Promoting Industrial Research and Technology Development

    SUB: TELECAST OF FILMS ON DSIR INITIATIVES ON DD-1: VIGYAN LOK PROGRAMME -SATURDAYS 1930-20.00 HRS PRESS RELEASE

    The Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), a department under the Ministry of Science and technology, Government of India promotes and supports industrial research, indigenous technology development, absorption and management of imported technology, trade, transfer & export of technology, strengthening of technical consultancy capabilities and creation and maintenance of S&T information systems.

    DSIR’s Tenth Plan scheme on Technology Promotion, Development and Utilization (TPDU Programmes is directed towards meeting distinct specific needs of industry and are of particular relevance in the present context. Each programme component of TPDU is unique and is directed towards a specific need of the industry, not addressed by any other government department/agency. For example, the Industrial R&D Promotion Programme operationalizes fiscal incentives and other support measures, announced by the government from time to time and encourages industry to carry out R&D; the Technology Development and Innovation Programme provides grants to industry and collaborating agencies, as partial support, for development of new product/process technology and also promotes studies, R&D/technology related interactions in the industrial sector; the International Technology Transfer Programme promotes international technology transfer and trade; the Consultancy Promotion Programme strengthens industrial consultancy capabilities; the Technology Management Programme facilitates technology transfer and management; and the Industrial R&D and Technology Information Facilitation Programme promotes development of endogenous information capacities to support R&D.

    With a view to encourage greater interaction of industry and R&D establishments with DSIR, some of the success stories of DSIR initiatives are scheduled to feature on the Vigyan Lok Programme telecast on Doordarshan National Channel (DD-1-Delhi) on Saturdays during 19.30-20.00 hours.
